Coolmine Youths on Tour 2016

Excitement is building within the Coolmine Youth teams as they gear up for the annual tours.

The Under 13’s travel to Birraritz in South West France on Saturday 30th April for a three night stay.

To date 30 boys and 30 adults are booked to travel so it should be quite an occasion.

On the Sunday they play a match against a local U13 team who they entertained in Coolmine last season. It’s great to see the international links being developed with the up & coming players from Ireland & France.

Our Under 15s, who are enjoying a fine season, depart for Aachen in Germany on Thurs 31st of March for three nights. The boys have a match with a local under 15 team on the Saturday.

It will be interesting to see the standard of rugby in Germany. To date the tour party will comprise 50 boys & adults. A day trip has been arranged to Phaisland theme park on the Friday .

On the Easter weekend, our Under 16’s depart to the South of France for a four night stay. A combined party of 40 boys & adults are scheduled to travel. Flying to Carcassonne, the boys will be based in Bedarieux, which is the home club of head coach Gamel Taieb. The rugby will take place on Saturday at the host club. On Sunday it will be adventure with a trip to a local Treetop park. On Monday, it will be culture with a trip to the beautiful city of Montpellier.

Director of Youths Rugby John Cagney commented as follows. “Touring has always been an integral part of rugby. In my own playing days, I have enjoyed many a tour and it is great to see so many of our youths players getting the opportunity at such a young age”.

A special thanks is due to Anita Kelly and Fiona Taieb for all their hard work in arranging the tours. Also thanks to the team managers and coaches for their assistance.
